Duties Description Outreach & Information Management Section Head

Provide direction and oversight for all programs in the Bureau of Fisheries Outreach and Information Management Section, which includes developing and coordinating the delivery all aspects of outreach, promotion, and fishing education across nine DEC Regions.The Section is also responsible for the management and development of the Bureau’s data and information, which includes the development and maintenance of a vast array of databases and geographic information system platforms that are used to accomplish fisheries management and fisheries outreach objectives. The Section is responsible for overseeing activities associated with the development, maintenance, and expansion of fishing access sites across the state, which currently includes 400 fishing access sites and 1,500 miles of public fishing rights.

The Section Head is responsible for the supervision of Unit Leader staff, the development and management of work plans, grants and budgets. The incumbent is also expected to fulfill a leadership role in Bureau of Fisheries Management Team and assist the Chief in delivering a first class, and nationally recognized fisheries program.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 23 or higher and either:

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 - One year of permanent competitive service as a Biologist 3 (Aquatic), (Ecology), (Marine) or (Wildlife), SG25.
or

Eligible for transfer under Section 52.6: Must have current or prior service in a title designated as 52.6 within two salary grades\one M grade of this position. To determine if your title is designated as 52.6 go to the Department of Civil Service website http://www.cs.ny.gov/ and search for your title under GOT-IT.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
