Duties Description This position will help manage the DEC recreation facilities, infrastructure, boat launch sites and daily operations.
Will help manage campgrounds as a hands on/working on-site supervisor. Will perform semi skilled maintenance and repairs on campground buildings, boat launches, and other DEC infrastructure.
Duties will include but are not limited to: picnic table, out house, and fire pit construction; hazardous tree removal; campsite restorations; facility remodels & rehabilitations; roofing; painting; snow removal; road repair; general building maintenance; daily cleaning and sanitizing of comfort stations & shower buildings; refuse pick up & removal; grounds keeping; mowing; fire pit cleaning; and assisting the Operations maintenance staff with various other projects.
Will help manage campground staff daily operations.To will include daily/weekly booth transactions and reports, customer service & registration, and staff scheduling.
Will operate various heavy equipment and vehicles including skid steer, loader, chipper, stump grinder, mini dump truck, and and transport equipment.
May be required to operate a motorboat to access remote state facilities and will need to obtain certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercraft upon appointment.
Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overtime may be required.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.
Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
