Duties Description The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Administrative Assistant 2 to support their Division of Milk Control and Dairy Services office in Albany, NY. The Administrative Assistant 2 establishes office procedures; designs filing systems; implements policies and procedures; maintains efficient workflow; resolves day to-day operational problems; responds to phone calls; sorts paper and electronic mail; organizes, expedites and follows up on projects; and other duties as assigned.

The Administrative Assistant 2, G-15, is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

The starting salary for the Administrative Assistant 2 is $59,787/year, and the hiring salary for the CSEA salary grade (SG) 15. The candidate appointed will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to CSEA employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated "Satisfactory" or its equivalent in their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary. Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-15 job rate salary of $72,429/year!

Reassignment qualifications: You must be a current Department of Agriculture and Markets employee and have one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service as an Administrative Assistant 2, G-15; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current eligible list for this location if one exists.

Transfer Qualifications: Under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law: One year of permanent, competitive service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Such titles include Program Aide, Office Assistant 3, Office Assistant 3 Calculations, and Payroll Examiner 2.

Provisional Appointment: If there is no appropriate eligible list of at least three people willing to accept
permanent appointment for this geographic location, the Department may nominate a qualified person for a provisional appointment under the provisions of Section 65 of the Civil Service Law.

Provisional Appointment Qualifications: You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows: Examination Composition Assistant, Keyboard Specialist 2, Keyboard Specialist 2 (Spanish Language), Keyboard Specialist 3, Law Department Document Specialist, Office Assistant 2 Keyboarding, Office Assistant 2 Keyboarding (Spanish Language), Administrative Assistant 1, Administrative Assistant 1 (Spanish Language), or Senior Data Entry Machine Operator.

Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.
