Duties Description A Trades Generalist performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Incumbents may supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities.

Will be required to uses the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the work assigned.

This position requires a working knowledge of methods, material, tools and equipment used for the work assigned, and knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations.

Will be required to use the tools, machines, equipment and material appropriate for the tasks assigned; train and supervise others; plan and lay out work and diagnose problems; and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Typical work includes dock and boardwalk building, trail construction, kiosk and trail structures construction/repairs, building construction/repairs, electrical installations/repairs, plumbing installations/repairs, fence and gate installations/repairs, concrete walk construction, drywall installation and finishing, interior and exterior building painting.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
