The State Counsel Division in the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking litigators to serve as Assistant Attorneys General (AAG) in the Judgment Enforcement Team (JET), located in Albany. JET is a new unit within the Civil Recoveries Bureau (CVB) that is responsible for large-dollar, complex, and high-profile judgment enforcement on behalf of all OAG bureaus. The unit’s primary objective is to enforce money judgments, with expert efficiency, and to maximize the recovery of monies owed to the state. By concentrating resources within a dedicated team, CVB will streamline the enforcement process, strengthen deterrence against misconduct, and enhance outcomes for the people of New York.

To fulfill its mission, JET will take the following actions:
• Apply expertise in CPLR Article 52, Debtor and Creditor Law, fraudulent conveyance claims, and all available legal avenues to accomplish its judgment enforcement objectives.
• Investigate and uncover hidden assets.
• Initiate, negotiate, or provide advice on post-judgment litigation necessary to seize or disgorge monies held by judgment debtors, or collaborators.
• Provide litigation support and specialized expertise to other OAG bureaus.

Duties:
• Handle all aspects of judgment enforcement efforts, including investigations into the existence and collectability of assets; post-judgment discovery, including depositions of judgment debtors or third parties; and proceedings to turn over assets, avoid fraudulent transfers, and to obtain recoverable assets from judgment debtors or third parties.
• Negotiate resolution of litigation through settlements or workout agreements.
• Provide advice to OAG staff and/or client agencies regarding judgment enforcement issues and advisability of collection efforts.
• Assist in development of training material on issues relating to judgment enforcement.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications:
• At least five (5) years of legal experience.
• Experience and expertise in judgment enforcement, debtor/creditor law, and related litigation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a large, complex caseload effectively.
• Excellent legal analysis, research, and writing skills.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
• Comfort with and proficiency using technology to complete legal work, including knowledge of and experience with various computer, case management, and electronic discovery platforms.
• Admission to the state bars of Connecticut, New Jersey, and/or Delaware is desirable, but not required.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
