Duties Description This Park Worker 3 would be a multi-faceted employee acting as both a Shift Supervisor and as a General Maintenance worker for both Robert Moses and Captree State Parks.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Acts as shift supervisor for an assigned area and directs and coordinates lower-level staff (both full-time and seasonal) in the performance of litter control, grounds upkeep & landscaping, snow & ice control, restroom facilities (supplies/cleanliness), etc.
• Coordinates work effort including assistance of skilled trades in the carrying out maintenance and repair projects.
• Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors, landscape equipment and other small equipment.
• May investigate incidents or unusual occurrences and completes necessary reports.
• Operates industrial wheeled tractors and low center-of-gravity tractors which may be equipped with interchangeable attachments.
• Conducts inspections of assigned area for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible.
• Trains lower-level staff as assigned in the proper use of small hand tools and in the operation of lawn mowing equipment, tractors, power trimmers, etc.
• Coordinates execution of recreation events and provides evaluations of these events.
• Trains lower-level annual and seasonal staff assigned on how to deal with inquiries concerning park information and how to handle patron complaints.
• Aids park visitors to resolve complaints and situations requiring first aid.
• Operates snow and refuse removal equipment as required and in line with operating needs.
• Conducts inventory of area’s needs for tools, small equipment and supplies and submits recommendations to supervisor and may be called upon to get price quotes and prepare purchase requisitions for materials and/or supplies needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and/ or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
*In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation;
OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches;
OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree**, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
**Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to load, move, and unload materials of varying weights and sizes.
SALARY INFORMATION:
The listed hiring rate combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) with Location Pay ($4,000). Similarly, the posted job rate is a combination of the statutory job rate ($52,413) with the Location Pay ($4,000).
SCHEDULING:
We operate from sunrise to sunset year-round. The staff works varying schedules to accommodate the facility's needs. Early shifts may begin as early as 5:30 AM, and late shifts may stay as late as 10:30 PM or 12 midnight, depending on the function. All staff members are required to work Weekends during the operating season and be available to do so in the off-season.
